What Solo Edition is planned to have.

It is the same engine as the two editions that exist. The work of reading a document, proposing where it goes, waiting for you to approve it and sending it out to QuickBooks Online, Xero or FreshBooks is not rewritten for each edition, so none of that is in question. What an edition decides is how much the app has to ask you.

Tax Docs holds what arrives, the 1099s that come to you. There are no subcontractors, so nothing goes out.

Account Coverage. Connect a bank or card and it finds the charges with no receipt behind them.
Out to QuickBooks Online, Xero or FreshBooks, with the photograph attached, the same as the other two.

What is deliberately not in it, and why that makes it simpler.

An edition is not a smaller pile of features. It is a smaller set of questions. Every one of these is absent because it only makes sense for somebody who hires people or keeps books for other people, and being asked about it anyway is the thing that makes software tiring.

No certificates of insurance. Compliance exists so that a business can prove the people working for it were covered. There is nobody to hold a certificate for, so the ledger, the expiry rules and the chasing are all gone.
Nothing about 1099s going out. No W-9 collection, no threshold watching, no January deadline. The 1099s that come to you still get read and filed, because those are yours.
No chart of accounts, anywhere. You are never shown an account column and never asked to build a list. The matching happens silently on the way out to the accounting software.
No client switching. It is your business, so it never asks which one this is.
No practice dashboard and no client roster. Those answer "whose is this", which is not a question you have.
No connection to a bookkeeper. Contractor Edition has that wire because a contractor commonly hands a month of paper to somebody. If that is how you work, Contractor Edition is the one you want.

Buying the small one first is not a trap. Moving up from Solo Edition to Contractor Edition costs the $200 difference, and nothing else.

Where it actually stands today.

Full Edition and Contractor Edition are the two that exist. Solo Edition has a price, a decided shape and a place in the plan, and it has not been built. There is no beta of it, no waiting list that gets you in early, and no date being promised here. If you want to be told when it is ready, say so and you will be told.
